Calculating  the rafters according the frequency of the dome.

 

The principle of calculating a dome is simple, all you need is the coefficient for each rafter and multiply it by the radius of the dome. The higher the frequency,  higher the number of difference rafters , for F4 you have 6 difference rafters for F3 it will be only 3.


 This calculation gives you a clear idea of the length of each rafter and quantity of wood you need, knowing that the section of the rafter to fit perfectly on the connectors will be maximum width of 55mm and a recommended height of 70mm

 

 

Dome F1

A = 0,61803  = 30 rafters for a complete icosahedron.

 

 

Dome F2

° A = 0,61803  = 35 rafters

° B = 0,54643 = 30 rafters

 

 

 

Dome F3

  • A = 0,3486 = 30 rafters
  • B= 0,4035 = 55 rafters
  • C= 0,4124 = 80 rafters
